Hey y'all

Winter is just a little over two weeks away and you know what that means. Family time and a winter bucket list! This time of year can be a bit of a challenge though when it comes to planning out our winter activities. If you know me then you know I am all about planning out family activities when I can. Winter time really is when we don't want to do too much outside the house, and when I say "we", I am referring to my husband and the kiddos that don't like the cold lol.

My family does not observe Christmas so a lot of local activities outside the house get left off of our calendar. However, just because we (and maybe you) don't partake in the winter time holidays, there are still a lot of fun winter bucket list ideas you can do with your family to shake off the winter blues and have some much needed family time.

Outdoor Winter Bucket List Ideas:

-Build a Snow Man
-Build a Snow Fort
-Have a Snow Ball Fight
-Have a Bonfire
-Catch Snow Flakes
-Go Sledding
-Go Ice Skating
-Go Skiing
-Take a Hike in the Snow
-Make Snow Portraits
-Shovel Snow For Someone That Needs Assistance
-Star Gaze in the Car
-Go Tailgating
-Take a Carriage Ride
-Take Pictures of the Snow and Winter Sites
-Plant Seeds for Winter/ Spring Harvest

Indoor Winter Bucket List Ideas:

-Bake Cookies
-Roast Marshmallows
-Make Hot Cocoa
-Have a Movie Marathon
-Make Snowflake Crafts
-Make Fake Snow. ( Like this recipe from Ashley at The Purposeful Nest.
-Clean Out Your Closet
- Donate To Shelters/ Volunteer
-Have a Pajama Party
-Host Family Game Night
- Light a Fire and Tell Family Stories
-Watch Family Movies/ Picture Slide Shows
-Visit Family for the Weekend
-Have a Front Room Camp Out
-Have a Super Bowl Party
- Make a Chunk Knitted Blanket
-Grab Books from the Library
-Send a Post Card to Far Off Friends or Family

Thankfully we are in Texas so it doesn't get too cold- however last year was a bit over the top lol. We had days of below freezing temps, frozen pipes around the metro, no electricity and a lot of accidents. Thankfully we were able to keep warm indoors with our fireplace and spend that down time from work together.

Have you started making your bucket list yet? What are you planning to do with your family this winter? Let me know below!

Hey y'all!

Do you want to improve your relationship with your teen? Then keep reading to see 5 ways you can improve your relationship with your teen.

Do you remember what it was like to be a teen? Do you remember that awkward phase of your life where you can't quite figure out which way is up but you think you know the way lol. Being a teenager is already tough enough- adding a tough relationship with their parents can make it even harder. But how do you keep it from going sideways? How can you improv your relationship with your teen?

After having two teens for a while now I picked up a few things along the way. Sure we have rough moments but after a lot.. and I mean A LOT of practice, patience and conversations I have found the best ways to improve your relationship with your teen.

Once again, I am NO EXPERT. However, I have almost 16 years of parenting experience so I am bound to learn something lol.

So, how do you improve your relationship with your teen?

1. Pray- Prayer can literally change your life. There have been many of trials in my life and whenever I prayed through it- God was there. Pray for your relationship with your child. Ask God to help you be the best parent you can be and to allow your child to draw close to you. Prayer works alongside actions.

2. Listening- Your teenager has a voice and while it may be right or wrong it is important. Giving your teen the confidence to speak openly and freely (but respectfully) allows them the time to mature in their thoughts and ideas. They may feel like they know everything and will want to fight, but they know deep down they can come to you with anything. Another part of listening is also learning more about their interests. Maybe try a show they like, listen to an artist they listen to.. anything that requires them to talk and you to listen!

3. Meet them at their level- If your child feels like they are "grown" then treat them as such. Of course they still have a lot to learn so you don't just throw them to the wolves. Allow them to make choices that could possibly have big consequences but still set up boundaries. For example, if your teen thinks they can go a whole week with only a few hours of sleep each night, let them see. They will quickly learn to appreciate rest lol. In our house, we show our kids the good, the bad and the ugly side of life. They know that every choice they make will create the path their life follows.

4. Have Dates- Once I started having regular dates with my teen our conversations changed for the better. She was more open with her thoughts and interests. Spending alone time with your teen will gently force your bond into something more. Try having a date with them once a month.

Need some date night ideas with your daughter? Read this "Mother Daughter Dates"
Need some date night ideas with your son? Read this ""Mother Son Dates"

5. Compromise- Of course there are some things in life you should never compromise on. However there are times when you should. The same goes for dealing with your teen and building your relationship. You have to compromise from time to time. Recently I was able to make a compromise with my teen that actually gave us what we both wanted. I wanted her to read more books that were a bit challenging and classic. She wanted to read more anime and manga. So I found manga adaptations of classics like "Romeo & Juliet", "Pride & Prejudice", "The Scarlett Letter", "Anne of Green Gables" and much much more. We checked out about 10 of them lol. Boom. Compromise.

BONUS * Admit When Wrong- Building a great relationship with your teen is letting them know that you are human and you make mistakes. Admitting when you were wrong will allow them to see you in a vulnerable way that will provoke empathy. Being open and honest with your teen are the stepping stones to improving your relationship.

I used to be afraid of the teenage years. The first one was a bit bumpy, the second was a roller coaster and the third has turned it's head to the light. We are at a place that is full of love and understanding. When I started implementing these tips daily I have found the teen years to be exciting full of great moments.

How do you plan to improve your relationship with your teen? Any advice you would like to share? Leave a comment below.

Hey y'all

Fall nails have arrived to let their light shine! I personally love fall nail colors. They are dark, moody and rich in colors. While it is rare that I get my nails done- I still love the colors and appearance of beautiful nails.

When I was younger and only had to worry about cheerleading and clocking in at Chili's, I would always get my nails done. Honestly I started getting them done around 15. However, now that I have kids, constant chores to do around the house and the fact that doors always seem to find my nails I rarely get them done. Plus, I am horrible at doing my own nails lol. I try my hardest to keep a steady hand and allow time to let them dry and if need be clean them up a tad... but they always look bad lol. So keep that in mind when you look at my nails below.

So, whether you get your nails done or not, these fall nail colors are sure to make anyone swoon.

Starting off this quick list of fall nail colors is one of my favorites.

1. Pure Ice "Scandal"-  This gorgeous color was given to me randomly and I fell in love with it instantly! It is part of the Pure Ice collection which is super affordable and rich in color. For this one since it is fairly deep, you shouldn't need more than two coats. This color has been out of stock at most places but it can be found via Amazon and Mercari.

2. Salon Perfect "Stick to Your Guns"- Another affordable beautiful color is this full grey color. It seems to last FOREVER as I have had this color on my toes for about two weeks and there has been no chipping. I have only had to do a few touch ups due to growth. Stick to Your Guns is a great nail color for fall. Make sure you pick this up on your next trip to the store.

3. Sally Hansen "Leaf Me Alone"- This polish is one of the best greens I have ever found! It is a little more on the pricey end of nail polish coming in a little over $7. However, this is definitely worth the money when you see this beautiful rich green.

4. Sally Hansen "Slick Slate"- If you know me then you know how much I adore mauve and blush tones. Slick Slate is a beautiful mauve color with a hint of grey undertones. I love it so much. Even my husband said it was a classy color lol.

5. Sally Hansen " In Nude-Tral" This nude is great for fall nails. It is very sleek and smooth without looking to chalky. Nudes are a great fall color that is honestly kind of underrated in my opinion.

* Bonus* Another color that is great for fall (honestly all year round) is white. You can do multi color nails with a pop of white for a fun fall look. Or you can keep it simple with a perfect polished set of white nails.

This fall you will definitely see me in these shades- no hesitation! Which one is your favorite? Do you have a go to polish that you love for fall? Let me know in the comments below.

Hey y'all!

Have you ever watched a show or flipped though a magazine and wonder, " oh I wonder if they have that in my size?" Of course you have, we all do it.... especially us plus size ladies that love trendy and of course super cute outfits.

I remember being younger and forced to shop in the women's section because most trendy stores capped at a 12/14. Need I say more about how horrible that was lol. Find stores that had cute, age appropriate fashion was like pulling teeth. Thankfully as I got older and into my high school years, more stores started to carry plus sizes and I was able to find things here and there that were "in" and not in the women's section.

So now that fashion is embracing larger bodies and designers are creating pieces that are flattering curvy figures it can all seem a bit overwhelming when trying to find just the right piece.

But where exactly are the best places to find trendy plus size clothes?

1. Target- Target has amazingly stylish clothes that are on trend and range all the way to a 4x. A lot of my dresses have come from Target and I love all of them. Make sure you check out the clearance section too. You can find a lot of items marked all the way up to 70% off. In my opinion, they have some of the most trendy plus size clothes for women.

2. Walmart- Walmart has stepped up their game within the last few years. A lot of their plus size clothes are on trend and pretty comfortable. One thing I have realized about Walmart's clothes are that they tend to be more fitting for longer legs and shorter torsos. Having shorter legs and most of my weight in my midsection, I wish they had more tops that were just a tad longer.

3. Ross- I love Ross! They have great prices and hidden gems in every department. They have great trendy plus size clothes and even some designer labels all at a reasonable price. The only thing about Ross stores is that they are all different. You have to check out several stores before finding your favorite one.

4. TJ Maxx- Another great place to find trendy plus size clothes is at TJ Maxx. To me, TJ Maxx is very similar to Ross but a little more "upscale". You can find many different name brands and they will still be more affordable than most department stores.

5.Forever21 Plus- Forever 21 at one point was my go to place. Not so much anymore since my taste has changed in clothing. However, Forever 21 Plus always has trendy plus size clothes in a variety of sizes and looks at decent prices.

6. Kohl's- Most of their plus size items can be found online as opposed the the store, but Kohl's always has a great selection of trendy plus size clothes.

7. Amazon- I have several friends that frequent Amazon for clothing. While they fall into the mid size clothing range, they have informed me that there are larger sizes available in the selections they chose. You can always find what you want and need on Amazon lol.

8. Dress Barn- Dress Barn has amazing plus size clothes. They are a little more on the costly side but worth every penny. One of my husband's favorite dresses that I own comes from Dress Barn. Dress Barn offers great, professional styles that are of high quality without the designer price.

9. Torrid- Growing up torrid was my GO- TO store. However, my little Chili's income was not enough to keep me in their threads. But I was able to snag some great pants and dresses from them. I feel like their prices have become more shopper friendly over the years so grabbing a few staple pieces won't break the bank.

10. Shein Curve- I personally have not had the chance to order from them but I have heard nothing less than positive reviews. Shein offers a wide variety of styles at super affordable prices. One thing I love about their site is that they have tons of buyer photos so you can see a variety of body shapes and how the sizes fit.

With these 10 stores, you can find great plus size clothes that are in style and that won't blow your budget. Have you shopped at any of these stores? Where do you find your trendy plus size clothes? Let me know in the comments!

Hey y'all!

Summer is here and we finally had our pictures taken. During Spring Break, I planned to have them taken but our schedules were so wild and Phe was only with us for a short amount of time. So unfortunately we had to wait until summer.

Our Summer photos came out way beyond what I had hoped. Our Photographer (Dunlap Films) is an old family friend of my husbands. When I met him I knew he dabbled in photography but I had no idea just how good he was until a few years later. I just knew he had to take them!

Getting the girls ready for our pictures was fairly easy for them. I asked them what they wanted to wear and I told them lol. Only slightly kidding. They gave me their input about style and we went through their closet to see what they had. I had just purchased them beautiful white dresses for Spring Holy Days and I didn't get really nice photos of them in it. So we agreed for summer pictures they would wear their white dresses.

Baltimore on the other hand. He pretty much just has athletic attire. Obviously for family pictures I am not wanting him to wear them lol. So I dug in the back of his dresser and found this nice shirt he NEVER wears. I honestly forgot that it even existed lol. So once I decided on his shirt it was pretty much a no brainer for the rest. Baltimore doesn't really fight much when it come to clothes or shoes, so I was able to take this head on without any objections.

Then there was the husband. If you know my husband- he is one of the most laid back person ever. He only wears suits to church and High Holy Days. Even to certain events I have to beg him to wear slacks lol. He is the most comfortable in athletic wear as well. After days of going back and forth and meaningless threats, we finally came to an agreement. We talked about what I was looking for and what he was comfortable with, we had a solid outfit idea.

For my dress, I was on the fence about the color and if I should have gotten a different one. My dress was a pretty mocha color that did not match the guy's khaki pants or the tan in the girl's sandals. After a lot of back and forth with which dress I was going to decide on, I chose the mocha one. And I am  GLAD I did!

So, need some ideas for your summer family pictures? Here are a few places you can take your summer family photos that are fool proof:

The Beach
Park
Field
Garden
Studio
City Landmark
Local Mural Alley
Flower Farm
Lakes
Backyard.

Overall, I am beyond satisfied with our summer family photos. Everything came out great and we all look amazing. I just wish it wasn't the hottest day of the year lol.

What do you think of our summer family pictures? Let me know in the comments below.
